Nagahama Railway Square

Museum area where Japan's oldest station building remains
"Nagahama Railway Square"

Nagahama Railway Square, a must-see spot for railway enthusiasts, consists of three facilities: the former Nagahama Station Building, the oldest existing station building in Japan, the Nagahama Railway Culture Museum, and the Hokuriku Line Electrification Memorial Museum. At the former Nagahama station building, which was built in 1882, you can get a glimpse of how people lived at the time. At the Nagahama Railway Culture Museum, where you can learn about Nagahama's railway history, the huge diorama of Nagahama Station is impressive, and you can even operate a model train yourself. The Hokuriku Line Electrification Memorial Museum has a D51 steam locomotive and an ED70 AC electric locomotive on display, and you can even get into the driver's cab.
