One of the greatest mysteries in the history of the Sengoku period is the Honnoji Incident, which occurred on June 2, 1582. Oda Nobunaga was killed by Akechi Mitsuhide at Honnoji Temple in Kyoto (now Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) in what was probably the most shocking coup of the Sengoku period.
