``Kami-Suwa Townscape'' - Walking through the retro streets of the castle town
Kamisuwa, which flourished as a castle town of the Takashima clan and a post town on the Koshu Highway, has an attractive retro townscape that retains the atmosphere from the Edo period to the Taisho era. Take a leisurely stroll around the area, admiring the buildings that are a fusion of Japanese and Western styles, visiting the miso store "Marutakakura" and enjoying shopping, and visiting Onsenji, the family temple of the Takashima feudal lord. A sake brewery called ``Suwa Gokura'' near Kamisuwa Station sells set tickets and is recommended for alcohol lovers.
