Castle tourism in Tokushima Prefecture

Tokushima Prefecture, famous for its Awa Odori dance, is characterized by spectacular views of the rich natural surroundings of mountains, rivers, and the sea, such as the whirlpools of Naruto and the Kazura Bridge of Iya. It is also known for having Ryozen-ji, the first temple on the pilgrimage route that visits 88 sacred sites throughout Shikoku, and more than a quarter of the temples on the pilgrimage route are located within the prefecture. It is famous for Ichinomiya Castle, the largest mountain castle in the prefecture, and Tokushima Castle, which Toyotomi Hideyoshi ordered to be built, and 70% of the approximately 300 remaining castles and forts are mountain castles. The Otsuka Museum of Art, which reproduces famous paintings from around the world on ceramic plates, is also popular.
