Modern architecture “Former Karatsu Bank”

The Old Karatsu Bank, designated as an important cultural property by Saga Prefecture, is a brick building supervised by Kingo Tatsuno, known as the father of modern Japanese architecture, and designed by his favorite student, Hikaru Tanaka. The building, built in 1912 as a bank, was designed in the Tatsuno style, a Japanese version of the British Queen Anne style. It features a combination of red brick and white granite, a turret and dome on the roof, graceful arched windows and a spiral staircase inside. Let's take a leisurely tour and immerse yourself in the Taisho romance.
