Gotokuji Temple is said to be the birthplace of the beckoning cat, since Naotaka Ii, the lord of Hikone, stopped by after being beckoned by a cat in front of the gate. There is also a three-storied pagoda with a height of 22.5 meters in the precincts. The largest nationally designated historic site in the area.
