Daisho-in Temple

Daisho-in Temple, the head temple of the Omuro school of Shingon Buddhism, founded by Kobo Daishi

Daisho-in is the head temple of the Omuro school of Shingon Buddhism (head temple Ninna-ji) which was founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai in 806. It also has deep ties to the Imperial family, and was responsible for the religious rites of Itsukushima Shrine as its betto temple until the Meiji Restoration. Many Buddhist statues remain, including the Namikiri Fudo Myo-o, said to have been made a protective Buddha by Toyotomi Hideyoshi when he invaded Korea, the Eleven-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva, the original Buddha of Itsukushima Shrine, and Ichigan Daishi, who will grant you one wish. It is also famous as one of Japan's three great temples for warding off evil and bringing good fortune.
