Feeling the horror of the atomic bomb and the importance of peace
"Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park"
The Atomic Bomb Dome was registered as a World Cultural Heritage site in 1996 as a "living witness to the horror of nuclear weapons." Originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Products Exhibition Hall, it was destroyed by the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and the remains of the dome's framework tell the tale of its tragedy. The 122,100㎡ area surrounding the Atomic Bomb Dome is now the "Peace Memorial Park," which includes the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and a memorial for the victims of the atomic bomb. Many people from all over the world visit this spot, which conveys the horror of the atomic bomb and the importance of peace.
